This is a behind-the-scenes snippet from the making of Hidden Beers of Belgium, a book which will take readers on a journey of discovery through some of Belgium’s most interesting but under-appreciated beers. Read more here.
So many Belgian breweries deviate from the established norm that it sometimes feels like the concept of eccentricity loses its meaning here. Everything can’t be eccentric. But then, month after month, you keep finding breweries which engage in such odd or whimsical behaviour that the definition is taken to another level yet again. Whether it’s archaic equipment and processes, self-painted watercolour portraits hanging on the walls of the brewery, or the dapper costumes of their introspective and uncompromising brewer, there’s always a reason to keep trying unknown beers.
